Guidelines for Treatment of Diffuse Gliomas

Classification & treatment of Gliomas have evolved from erstwhile histopathology based to recent one incorporating molecular markers. EANO (European Association of Neuro Oncology) 2021 guidelines key pathology recommendations include incorporation of immunohistochemistry for IDH R132H & ATRX protein, MGMT promoter methylation status for elderly glioma patients. Key recommendations for surgery include emphasis on obtaining complete resection across glioma entities. General recommendations include KPS & Neurological function assessment, MRI being preferred diagnostic imaging modality with or without contrast agent. Guidelines also highlight importance of obtaining tissue diagnosis in addition to MRI. Guidelines provide grade-based treatment algorithm IDH Mutant & Wild type Gliomas.
